Douglas Jackson lives in Bridge of Allan and is the author of the historical novels Caligula, Claudius, Hero of Rome, Defender of Rome, Avenger of Rome and Sword of Rome. His latest, Enemy of Rome, continues the critically acclaimed Valerius Verrens series, and was published on August 28. Doug was born in Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders and his first job after leaving school was restoring a Roman marching camp in the Cheviot Hills. Later he joined his local paper and for the next 36 years worked in local and national newspapers before becoming a full time writer in 2009.
